Elizabeth Leiva will be graduating as Salutatorian of her class at Cesar Chavez Academy. She has participated in cheerleading and soccer for three years, becoming co-captain of the soccer team by her senior year. During the summer of 2011, she worked as an office assistant at SER-Metro Detroit. Her junior year, she explored different cultures as part of the Generations of Promise program. The National Honors Society recognized her for her academic success, and she helped first graders improve their reading and comprehension skills. In 2012, she worked as a summer missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship teaching 5 day clubs. Elizabeth volunteered with First Spanish Baptist Church as a sunday school teacher for elementary kids. Elizabeth continues to volunteer with local churches in the community and currently is a part of Youth Group at her church. Elizabeth Leiva also received the Detroit Rotary Club Citizen of the Month Scholarship in April.
In the fall, she plans to attend the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in order to pursue a career as a teacher, and eventually as a developmental psychologist.
