Lawrence Kim has been actively seeking scientific research opportunities throughout his high school career. Having done research during the past three summers, Lawrence has been recognized as a regional finalist and a two-time semifinalist for the Siemens Competition in Math, Science, and Technology. He has also been a finalist for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. His passion for science, however, expands well beyond simply research. He is the president of his high school's Science Olympiad team, which has qualified for Nationals for the first time in over 10 years under his leadership. He is also a semifinalist for the United States American Biology Olympiad and the United States Physics Olympiad. He is also an active mathematician and has been participating in competitions such as the Michigan Math Prize Competition, the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, and the American Mathematics Competition. Lawrence Kim also has many non-academic interests. He is a third-degree black belt in taekwondo and is a very enthusiastic musician as he has been playing baritone saxophone in the jazz band of his high school. In addition, he enjoys singing and has been participating in his high school's A Capella group.
Lawrence is undecided between majoring in Computer Science and entering the field of Medicine. Regardless of his career choice, he hopes to become a positive impact on the lives of people around him and become an influence that brings the best out of everyone.
