Brett Goodman will graduate Summa Cum Laude from Monroe High School. An excellent student, Brett is a National Merit Finalist and has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his four years at Monroe. He is the president of National Honor Society, Interact Club, and Band Council. In addition, Brett is a member of the Ignition Club—a freshmen mentoring program, as well as C.A.L.C club. Band has always been Brett’s main extracurricular activity; he was a member of Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. In addition, he participated in several honors bands and solo and ensemble competitions, including making it into MSBOA’s All State Band this year. He has always loved playing the saxophone, but he loves the friendships and connections he has made through music even more. As the three-year section leader of the Alto Saxophones in marching band, Brett has been able to experience the joy of helping others learn and experience the wonders of instrumental music.
Next year, Brett is going to major in Music Education at Central Michigan University, where he has received the full-ride Centralis Scholarship. He plans to remain incredibly involved in music, hopefully participating in as many ensembles as possible, including the Chippewa Marching Band. As a Music Education major, Brett hopes to grow both as a saxophone player and a person, in the hope that after graduation he can use music to positively influence others’ lives the way it has influenced his. Brett’s long-term dreams aren’t perfectly clear yet, but he knows he wants to work and experience music with others—something he absolutely loves and has great enthusiasm for doing.
